Free Pattern: Crocheted cell phone case

We’re running out of ideas about how protect our smartphones.

It seems like they’re made less and less resistant and the tiniest little bump will cause them to shatter. The rubber case and the glass screen protector just aren’t enough  (not to mention some of the designs are a little.. iffy).

We want more protection, but more than that we want design, personalized cases,  that can match the color of our outfit or current state of mind.

We want to help you get your perfect case, so we bring you this free pattern for an awesome crocheted cell phone case, it’s a little rabbit that you can make with a combination of your favorite colors of Pima Cotton.

Crocheted cell phone case

 MATERIALS:

– A size 8 wooden crochet hook

– Pima cotton in khaki (Color A), natural (Color B), and light salmon (Color C)

– A tapestry needle to seam and finish

The case is worked in rounds, without closing rows with a slip stitch, but around an initial foundation chain. It is worked through the back loop of the stitches from the previous round.

In this project, we’re going to use the Tapestry Crochet technique; so you can learn more about this technique, and how it is used to change colors here.

Make a foundation chain of 19 stitches with khaki (Color A).

Round 1: single crochet into the second chain from the crochet hook with khaki (Color A).

Continue working single crochet into each stitch of the foundation chain, until the last stitch. In the last stitch (the first one you made) make 3 single crochets.

Now, continue crocheting the case without turning your work by working around the foundation chain to single crochet on the “unworked side” of the foundation chain.

Single crochet into each stitch, until the last stitch. In the last stitch, where you worked your first single crochet, insert 2 more single crochet.

In the following image, we show you which are the first and last stitches.

Crochet two ears as follows:

With the light salmon yarn (color C) make a foundation chain of 10 stitches.  Work 7 single crochets into the foundation chain, 1 half double crochet, and 5 double crochets into the last stitch of the foundation chain. Just like at the beginning of the phone case, don’t turn your work, but rotate it to work into the “unworked” side of the foundation chain, work 1 half double crochet into the next stitch, and 7 single crochets into the next 7 stitches. Cut the yarn and weave in the end.

With the khaki yarn (color A), work 7 single crochets into the 7 single crochets of the previous round, 1 half double crochet into the half double crochet of the previous round, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochets into the next stitch, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet into the next stitch, 1 double crochet, and then, 1 half double crochet into the half double crochet of the previous round, and 1 single crochet into each of the last 7 single crochets from the previous round. Cut the yarn and weave in the end.

Sew the ears to the case.

Make a mini-pompom, as we explained in this post, and sew it to the back of the case to make a bunny tail.
