Today we have chosen the hexagon stitch because we think it’s looks visually easy, but original. It’s light and at the same time deep, which makes it perfect to work, for example, a knitted plaid or a baby blanket to gift away. Working it is easy since, once you have worked the first 4 rows, you only have to keep repeating them until you finish the piece. Besides, you don’t need to be such a great knitter, you only knit to know:

You will also need to know what it means to knit below.

To knit below, you will work the same as a knit stitch, but you must insert the needle into the stitch below the one you are supposed to knit. You will see how to do it in the first video.

For today’s example we used:

As you can see on our example. To start, and after casting on an odd number of stitches, we knitted all the stitches on the first row.

Next, we start to explain to you how to work the hexagon stitch.

Besides the small explanation we give you, in each video it’s shown how to work a whole row so you can see the process in detail.

Come on, grab your materials because here we go.

Row 1. *knit 1 and knit 1 below*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 2. *knit 1. You will see that the next stitch is surrounded by two strands. Insert the right-hand needle into the upper strand and then into the stitch on the needle, and place both stitches to the right-hand needle. Pick both strands again with the left-hand needle and knit them together*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 3. *knit 1 below and knit 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 4. *You will see that the next stitch is surrounded by two strands. Insert the right-hand needle into the upper strand and then into the stitch on the needle, and place both stitches to the right-hand needle. Pick both strands again with the left-hand needle and knit them together*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 until you have reach your desired length.

What do you think of the results? Are they worth it or not? This is a stitch that you can use for an infinite number of things, so if you have to knit something for your friends, or if your mother has told you you never knit for her, the hexagon stitch is ideal to surprise her with a little gift, and don’t forget to show it to us with #WeAreKnitters , we want to see how it fits her!
