Hi knitters!

Today we show you how to knit Fisherman’s Rib Stitch. You can get a spongy knit with non-rolling borders. It’s great for scarves and sweaters, and it’s very easy to knit!

Firstly, cast on a number of stitches multiple of 2 + 1

Knit all stitches in the first row and then, keep on knitting like this:

Row 2: *purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch in English stitch*, purl the last stitch

Row 3: knit all stitches

To knit English stitch, you have to introduce the needle tip in the stitch of the last row, and then knit it. Pay attention to the video tutorial.

As you can see Fisherman’s Rib Stitch is very easy! Once you know it, you will knit it even with your eyes closed 😉

  1. no video…also is it reversible and what is the dif between this and the shaker stitch…photos please…

    1. Hello!

The video should work now! This stitch is reversible. The Shaker Stitch is another name for the Fisherman’s Rib Stitch!

      Enjoy!

  2. Hey hey! I can’t, for the life of me and all the google searches in the world figure out how to increase in the Fisherman’s Rib pattern, which I am performing in the round. I’ve found a useless garnstudios video and instructions for the brioche stitch increase, but I’d like to use the fisherman’s rib technique because it’s so much easier. Do you have the answer / suggestions? Thank you!

    1. We do not have this type of stich in the blog nor in any pattern so we can´t answer exactly, but you can try watching our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/WeAreKnittersEN. There are many types of increases, normally there is no one type of increase specific for a type of stich. Normally knitters use the type of increase they think it is the easier or prettier.
