Today’s stitch is the kind we really like… by combining knit-stitches and purl-stitches, we can sometimes get surprising results. Today, we’re going to take advantage of these results and learn how to knit circle stitch.

The circle stitch will take your WAK knitting projects to the next level if you’re a beginner, and if you’re an advanced knitter you can use it in lots of different projects.

This stitch has lots of texture, and by repeating the pattern several times a circle design will appear in your project.

We chose our wool yarn skeins in turquoise, which when knit with our WAK needles can make for some big circles, but you can choose the wool or cotton in your favorite colors to make this project all your own!

To knit this stitch, cast on a multiple of 14 stitches + 1 extra stitch. This stitch is reversible; and depending upon which side you choose the circles will appear in either garter stitch or stockinette stitch.

Row 1: *purl 3, knit 9, purl 2*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, purl 1.

Rows 2 and 14: *knit 2, purl 3, knit 5, purl 3, knit 1 *. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, knit 1.

Rows 3 and 13: *purl 1, knit 3, purl 7, knit 3*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, purl 1.

Rows 4 and 12: *purl 3, knit 9, purl 2*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, purl 1.

Rows 5 and 11: *knit 2, purl 11, knit 1*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, knit 1.

Rows 6, 8, and 10: *purl 1, knit 4, purl 5, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, purl 1.

Rows 7 and 9: *knit 1, purl 4, knit 5, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until there is one stitch left, knit 1.

Repeat rows 1 to 14 until you reach the desired length, and then finish with one more repeat of row 1.

In the image above, you can see how the circles come out on one side of your work and in the image below how they look on the other side, choose the one you like best:
